Will Buckley found Ashley Barnes in space on the edge of the box but the striker saw his curling effort tipped wide.

Darius Henderson and Radoslaw Majewski both saw efforts saved before Brighton took the lead through Crofts, who headed home after meeting Barnes's cross.

Barnes had another effort from outside the box saved, while Kazenga Lua Lua was becoming more and more involved for the home side as the first half drew to a close.
