Brentford coast to Nottingham Forest win

Nottingham Forest continue their recent freefall in the Championship after losing 3-1 at home to Brentford.

Brentford have extended Nottingham Forest's miserable run of form after winning 3-1 to leapfrog the East Midlands club in the Championship.

The Bees were ahead on 17 minutes when Moses Odubajo delivered a cross for Arsenal loanee Jon-Miquel Toral, who rifled the ball into the top corner of the net.

Mark Warburton's side doubled their lead 10 minutes before the break after Andre Gray found time to shoot in the heart of the area and his effort beat Forest keeper Karl Darlow.

Stuart Pearce's men came close to getting back into the game moments before the break when a Jamaal Lascelles header was tipped over the crossbar by Bees shot-stopper David Button.

However, the visitors ought to have added a third at the end of the first period when Jonathan Douglas found himself one on one with Darlow, but the forward was unable to convert his opportunity.

Hopes of a Forest fightback were all but extinguished within minutes of the restart as Brentford were awarded a penalty for a foul by Kelvin Wilson on Gray. Alex Pritchard stepped up to stroke the spot kick beyond Darlow.

The home side thought they had pulled a goal back when Britt Assombalonga stroked the ball into the net only to see his effort flagged for a foul, much to the bemusement of the former Peterborough United forward.

Henri Lansbury had an effort saved midway through the second half, but their miserable evening was compounded when Danny Fox was stretchered off.

Michail Antonio pulled a goal back eight minutes from time, but Brentford held on to move into ninth in the Championship table, three points ahead of Forest.
