Plymouth go top of League Two with win over Notts County

Plymouth Argyle go top of League Two thanks to a 2-0 victory away to Notts County, as a Rueben Reid brace is enough to hand Derek Adams' side all three points.

A brace from Reuben Reid has given Plymouth Argyle a 2-0 win away to Notts County, putting them top of the League Two standings.

Reid got the game's opener 18 minutes into the tie, turning into space before firing into the far corner of Scott Loach's goal.

The Magpies almost replied immediately as Graham Burke slammed a shot off the post.

Plymouth keeper Luke McCormick was then called into action to stop a deflected Alan Smith effort.

Notts continued to attack in the second half but could not find a way past the resolute Pilgrims defence.

Magpies striker Burke failed to convert from two decent chances in the second period, putting a header over the bar before lashing wide inside the box.

Minutes from full time, Reid struck again for Plymouth, breaking the offside trap and seeing his first effort saved by Loach before firing in from the rebound to hand his side all three points.

Derek Adams' side now occupy top spot in the League Two table, three points ahead of both Portsmouth and Oxford United, while Notts County move down a place to 16th.
