Port Vale captain Doug Loft extends his stay at the club until next summer.

Port Vale captain Doug Loft has agreed terms on a new one-year deal at the newly-promoted League One side.

Loft's previous contract expired this summer but the player will now stay until next year, to the delight of manager Micky Adams.

"Doug has made a telling contribution to the squad during his time at Port Vale, both on and off the pitch, and I'm pleased he has decided to sign a new deal with us," Adams told the club's official website.

"Sometimes these things take time and it needs to be right for both parties. Doug was always a part of our plans and I'm looking forward to working with him for a further season."

Loft signed for Vale from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2009.
