Gerard Houllier: 'We should be pleased for Paris Saint-Germain's success'

Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Gerard Houllier is pleased that his old club can now compete with some of the top teams in Europe.

Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Gerard Houllier has revealed his pleasure at Ligue 1 finally having a team that are competing with some of Europe's biggest clubs.

As a young coach, Houllier guided PSG to the French top flight and he has now shown his pride with the club featuring in the latter stages of the Champions League.

"It's a different club. But football has changed as well. When you look at the big guns like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester... the two Manchesters," Houllier told The Ligue 1 Show.

"So, Paris is in that league, in that category now, and this is what we should be very pleased with because we have in France a club that competes with the top top."

Laurent Blanc's side are currently locked at 1-1 with Chelsea following the first leg of their last-16 tie.
