Queens Park Rangers ease past Ipswich Town

Queens Park Rangers beat Ipswich Town 3-1 at Portman Road in the Championship.

Queens Park Rangers have cruised to a 3-1 win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Championship.

Ipswich had a couple of shots early on through David McGoldrick and Paul Taylor before Aaron Cresswell's effort was blocked by Richard Dunne.

The home side had a great chance to take the lead on 24 minutes, but somehow the R's managed to survive a goalmouth scramble before clearing their lines.

Croatian playmaker Niko Krancjar opened the scoring for QPR seven minutes after half time when he dipped inside from Benoit Assou-Ekotto's thrown-in before smashing a low drive into the corner.

Gary O'Neil doubled the lead shortly after the hour mark when he reacted quickest from Charlie Austin's saved effort to tap in.

Armand Traore made the result safe with 15 minutes to go when he finished from around 10 yards to score his first goal for the club.

Tommy Smith struck an injury-time volley for a consolation for the hosts, but the visitors were too hot for Mick McCarthy's side and went within a point of the automatic promotion places.
