Reading's Nigel Adkins explains first-half tactical switch

Nigel Adkins explains his first-half tactical change during Reading's clash against Yeovil Town.

Reading boss Nigel Adkins has explained that his decision to take off Garath McCleary for Danny Williams during the first half of his side's clash with Yeovil Town had no reflection on the player's performance.

Adkins explained that the amount of space being afforded to Yeovil prompted the change, as opposed to a poor showing from McCleary.

"We had Garath wide on one wing, Royston [Drenthe] wide on the other, and two up front with [Adam] Le Fondre and Nick Blackman," Adkins told the club's official website. "When we lost the ball they were very narrow in their team shape so they had far too much possession of the football.

"Do you wait until half time, do you wait and wait and wait? Do you wait until they score a goal and then do something or do you make a change?

"Not many people make changes early on in a game, but it's got nothing to do with Garath McCleary."

Reading went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to a penalty won and converted by striker Le Fondre.
