Frank Lampard has told Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale to ditch the "nice boy" image if he wants to prove a success at the club.
The Welshman has struggled for form in his second season in Madrid and has been subjected to boos by the Blancos' supporters in recent weeks.
Bale, who has three goals in all competitions this year, failed to have an impact in tonight's 2-0 Champions League win over Schalke 04, and Lampard says that his woes are rooted in a shortage of confidence.
"I get the feeling he is a nice boy," the Manchester City midfielder told Sky Sports News.
"There is a bit of ego and he should have some because of what he has achieved in the game, but maybe there is a moment when he thinks 'should I go for goal and take it on or should I look for the other option in case I get criticised?'
"I hope that goes out of his game very quickly because if that is there it is going to affect him."
The 25-year-old has 10 goals and five assists in 20 La Liga appearances this season.
