Republic of Ireland announces friendly against Oman

The Republic of Ireland announce that they will play Oman in a friendly this September as part of their preparations for 2016 European Championship qualifying.

The Republic of Ireland have revealed that they will face Oman in a friendly in the final game before the start of their European Championship qualifying campaign.

Oman, who are managed by former Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain and Rangers boss Paul Le Guen, will visit the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday, September 3.

The match comes four days before Ireland's opening qualifier against Georgia, in a group which also includes Germany, Poland, Scotland and Gibraltar.

The two nations last met in September 2012, when goals from Robbie Brady, Alex Pearce, Shane Long and Kevin Doyle earned Ireland a 4-1 victory at Craven Cottage.

Ireland have won one, drawn one and lost one of Martin O'Neill's first three games in charge.
