Steve Diamond: 'Danny Cipriani unlucky to miss out on Rugby World Cup place'

Sale Sharks coach Steve Diamond claims that Danny Cipriani should have been given a spot in England's Rugby World Cup squad.

Sale Sharks coach Steve Diamond has claimed that Danny Cipriani should have been included in England's squad for the Rugby World Cup.

The fly-half missed out on a place in the 31-man party despite impressing during the team's warm-up defeat to France in Paris.

"I was surprised after his performances for England but I am not a selector. If I was, he would have been picked," Diamond is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"But he understands he couldn't do anything more in the eyes of the selectors. Other people are in front of him and he can't do anything to change that."

Cipriani has won 14 caps for England since 2008.
