Domenico Berardi strike downs Chievo

Domenico Berardi scores from the penalty spot as Sassuolo survive the second-half dismissal of Federico Peluso to beat Chievo 1-0 in their Serie A meeting.

It was the visitors who almost the opening when Riccardo Meggiorini was picked out by Ezequiel Schelotto, only to crash a volley onto the bar.

However, just a minute later, Alessandro Gamberini brought down Berardi inside the box and the striker stepped up to convert the resulting penalty.

As the game edged towards the hour mark, Sassuolo's chances of claiming the points suffered a blow when Federico Peluso was sent off for picking up his second yellow card of the match.

Within minutes, Ruben Botta had a chance to draw Chievo level, but his header was kept out by Andrea Consigli.

Chievo pushed hard in their search for an equaliser, but they were unable to find a way through Sassuolo's defence as their four-game unbeaten run came to an end.
