David Syers helps Scunthorpe United extend run

Scunthorpe United beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0 to extend their unbeaten run to 21 games.

Scunthorpe United extended their club-record unbeaten run to 21 games as they scored twice late on to see off Plymouth Argyle in League Two.

The Iron, who started the game just a point off top-of-the-table Chesterfield, had to wait until the 79th minute to take the lead when David Syres latched on to Paul Hayes's pinpoint cross and fired home from close range.

They made sure of three points when Jake Cole turned the ball into his own net, moments after Hakeeb Adelakun struck the post with a thundering strike.

Plymouth played their part in the game and were unlucky not equalise just after they fell behind when Lewis Alessandra, who threatened throughout, saw his own effort come back off the woodwork.

However, Scunthorpe held on for the 2-0 win, their first in five games, which keeps them in touch with Chesterfield as they look to secure automatic promotion to League One.
