Deportivo La Coruna's relegation woes increase with a 3-1 defeat at Sevilla in La Liga.

Deportivo La Coruna's relegation woes have deepened with a 3-1 defeat at Sevilla in La Liga.

Jose Luis Oltra's side are now six points from safety at the bottom of the standings having played a game more than their rivals.

The home side went ahead with five minutes played when Ivan Rakitic headed in Jose Antonio Reyes's cross.

Reyes was the provider again midway through the first half as Gary Medel converted to put Sevilla 2-0 up.

Deportivo gave themselves some hope soon after through Riki's strike, but the hosts extended their advantage before the break thanks to Medel's second goal of the game.

Alvaro Negredo put his header wide for Sevilla into the second half, while Beto made two point-blank saves to deny Pizzi at the other end.

However, Sevilla were able to withstand a late charge from the visitors and claim the win.
