Sheffield Wednesday sign Jake Kean from Norwich City

Sheffield Wednesday sign goalkeeper Jake Kean on a free transfer following his release from Norwich City.

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of goalkeeper Jake Kean following his release from Norwich City.

The 25-year-old joined the Canaries after leaving Blackburn Rovers last summer, but did not make a single appearance for the club before his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Kean spent time on loan at Colchester United and Swindon Town last season, but made just eight appearances overall during the 2015-16 campaign.

"Obviously this is a massive club with a great history and hopefully an even better future. There is a lot of competition but any competition is good competition. It's up to me to come here and have a go and try and get that number one shirt," he told the club's official website.

"But it's Keiren [Westwood]'s at the minute and if I can provide more competition for him and make him play better then great. I believe this club has got every chance to go up automatically, if not via the play-offs. There is a strong squad here and obviously on the back of the disappointment last year, the lads will want to kick on.

"It will be a difficult division, it always is. There are some big teams, who will have a good go but I expect it to be tough like always. It's been a strange year followed by a strange 24 hours with leaving Norwich and coming here but now I am just excited to be part of this squad and hopefully we can achieve something."

Kean is the second member of his family to play for the Owls after great uncle Fred Kean, who was at the club from 1920 to 1928.
