Southampton make nine changes to their starting lineup for their League Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday today, while their opponents make seven.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has named a weakened lineup for his side's League Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday today.

Adkins has rung the changes, bringing in nine new faces, including one-time record signing Jay Rodgriguez in place of Rickie Lambert.

The only players to keep their place are goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga and Maya Yoshida, while Jack Cork and Steve de Ridder make their first appearances of the season.

Wednesday, meanwhile, have also named a team almost unrecognisable to the one that started their 2-1 loss to Bolton Wanderers, making seven changes.

Southampton: Gazzaniga; Richardson, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Seaborne; Cork, Ward-Prowse, Chaplow, Guly; De Ridder, Rodriguez

Sheffield Wednesday: Bywater; Llera, Semedo, Beevers; Lee, Jones, Antonio, Corry; Pecnik, Maguire, Maine
