Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino insists that the players are fighting for him and the club following their 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at St Mary's.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has insisted that his players are fighting for him, themselves and the club after they battled to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

The Saints remain in the relegation zone and a point from safety following the result, which saw their winless run extend to 11 games in the Premier League - their longest since 1998.

Nonetheless, there were reasons for encouragement from Southampton's performance, and with uncertainty surrounding his future Pellegrino stressed that the players are still up for the fight.

"They don't fight just for me. They fight for themselves. They fight for the club," he told reporters at his post-match press conference.

Southampton's next match sees them host Watford in the FA Cup fourth round next Saturday.
