William Gallas and Steven Pienaar make their first starts for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas and midfielder Steven Pienaar make their first appearances for Tottenham Hotspur this season as they hope to claim a spot in the final 32 of the Europa League with a win over Rubin Kazan.

The most notable omission is manager Harry Redknapp, who is recovering from a minor heart procedure. However, coaches Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond are in place to take charge in Russia this evening.

Sebastien Bassong has been selected in the North London side's starting XI, while Jermain Defoe partners Roman Pavlyuchenko up front.

Spurs will have to do without midfielders Scott Parker, Luka Modric and Sandro tonight, as they haven't travelled with the squad to Russia.

Tottenham Hotspur: Cudicini; Fredericks, Bassong, Gallas, Townsend; Falque, Carroll, Livermore, Pienaar; Defoe, Pavlyuchenko
Subs: Gomes, Stewart, Nicholson, Parrett, Pritchard, Kane, Lancaster
