Martin Keown agrees with Andre Villas-Boas over Andros Townsend's England inclusion

Martin Keown agrees with Andre Villas-Boas's view that the England squad needs more continuity.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown says that he agrees with Andre Villas-Boas's assessment that there needs to be more continuity in the England squad.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager recently declared his surprise at the call-up of Andros Townsend for the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine next month.

The Portuguese said that he was happy to see his player reach the national stage but felt that it had to be part of a greater plan to include the youngster in more games.

"Villas-Boas had a point. It's nice to give players a chance but it's crushing to then just be dropped," he wrote in his column in the Daily Mail.

"Hodgson is trying to take a close look at as many players as possible but we have big games coming up. Andros Townsend might not even start many games for Tottenham.

"It's left with the club to pick up the pieces. Leon Osman came in and did well and now he's nowhere to be seen."

Townsend spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers.
