Gary Mabbutt: 'Mauricio Pochettino is an exciting appointment'

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Gary Mabbutt believes that Mauricio Pochettino is an "exciting appointment" for the club.

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Gary Mabbutt has described Mauricio Pochettino as a "very exciting appointment" for the club.

The club announced that the Southampton manager was making the move to White Hart Lane after agreeing a five-year contract earlier today.

The 52-year-old told Sky Sports News: "After what happened this season, with all the changes, the chairman obviously wanted to get a manager in place to carry the club forward.

"Pochettino loves attacking football, he brings through young players, I think it's a very exciting appointment.

"We also have a first team squad full of players with potential that has to be nurtured, and he seems to be the person that could put all that in place."

Pochettino led Southampton to an eighth-place finish in the table in the 2013-14 season.
