Ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega considering FIFA presidency bid

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Watford defender Ramon Vega suggests that he is considering standing for the FIFA presidency.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Watford defender Ramon Vega has hinted that he is considering standing for the FIFA presidency.

The former Switzerland international, who spent five years in English football with Spurs and Watford, entered the world of finance after retiring from football in 2003.

Vega's name has emerged as a candidate after several European countries withdrew their support of Michel Platini's bid for the presidency.

"I'm an ex-football player. The last few years I've been really distanced," Vega, 44, told The Guardian.

"I'm still in the finance world, advising lots of European clubs from a financial point of view, balance sheets, restructuring. There are people who have an interest in getting this sorted out in a manner where tranquility and stability can follow.

"You need a nuclear scenario, a clean break from the past."

Platini and current FIFA president Sepp Blatter are currently suspended amid investigations into an alleged £1.35m payment made by Blatter to Platini.
