Michel Platini 'given full support by UEFA'

Michel Platini will reportedly be given UEFA's full support to clear his name following recent allegations over illegal payments made to him by FIFA boss Sepp Blatter.

UEFA president Michel Platini has been offered the 'full support' of the European football governing body in the wake of recent corruption allegations.

The Frenchman was questioned last week regarding concerns over a £1.35m payment made to him by outgoing FIFA boss Sepp Blatter.

Both men deny any wrongdoing, but UEFA's 54 members met in Switzerland on Thursday afternoon as the crisis surrounding football's highest-profile figures continues to deepen.

Despite facing pressure to pull out of the running to replace Blatter at next year's presidential elections, BBC Sport claims that numerous European officials - including Austrian soccer federation chief Leo Windtner - plan to stand by Platini so that he can clear his name.

The former European Player of the Year has been suspended from all football activity for the next 90 days while the scandal-hit organisation looks into the supposed illegal payment made by Blatter.
