Rafael van der Vaart expects Harry Redknapp to leave Tottenham Hotspur and take over as England manager.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has admitted that he expects his manager Harry Redknapp to take over England.

Redknapp has been widely tipped to replace Fabio Capello, who will vacate the position following the conclusion of Euro 2012.

Van der Vaart is keen for his boss to remain at White Hart Lane but has conceded that it will come as little surprise if he becomes the coach of the national team.

"I hope Harry is going to stay but, to be honest, I think he is maybe the right man for the [England] job," the Dutch international told The Guardian.

"The players would accept him and the people in England love him, so I think it is going to be a good move from the England organisation.

"It would be bad for Tottenham but somebody else would come."

Van der Vaart, 28, joined Spurs in 2010 from Real Madrid.
