Kyle Walker: 'Tottenham Hotspur lacked edge to win trophies'

New Manchester City defender Kyle Walker says that former club Tottenham Hotspur did not possess the required "edge" to win trophies.

Defender Kyle Walker has said that leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Manchester City has taken him out of his "comfort zone".

Last week, Walker completed a big-money move to the Etihad Stadium as City boss Pep Guardiola continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Walker has acknowledged that he is hoping for a successful period in the North-West, while suggesting that his previous club did not possess the "edge" required to go to the next level.

The 27-year-old told BBC Sport: "I am hoping with the world-class players we have here that we will go and lift a trophy, which is what I want to do in my career.

"I was unfortunate at Tottenham. We made it so close in the last two seasons, it was just that sometimes we were unlucky. Sometimes we just didn't have that little bit of edge.

"I needed a new challenge. This would have been my ninth season at Tottenham. Sometimes you need to come out of your comfort zone a little bit."

Walker could face competition for the right-back spot from reported target Danilo, who could leave Real Madrid to move to City.
