Harry Kane scores first goal of season as Tottenham Hotspur run riot over Stoke

Harry Kane scores his first goal of the season as Tottenham Hotspur beat Stoke City 4-0 at the bet365 Stadium in the Premier League.

Harry Kane opened his account for the season this afternoon as Tottenham Hotspur dominated a 4-0 thumping over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino's side remain unbeaten after four Premier League fixtures, but today's match was the first time that the team have scored more than one goal in a game.

The North London outfit started slowly and had a worrying moment when Marko Arnautovic's strike nestled into the bottom of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Glenn Whelan tried his luck with a 30-yard shot, and it was heading for the top corner, but Ben Davies managed to cut out the ball with a headed clearance.

Tottenham had a penalty claim waved away in the 22nd minute when Son Heung-min was brought down by Geoff Cameron following a tussle.

Spurs found their feet as the game went on, and Dele Alli tried to make things happen by forcing a save from Shay Given and later went one on one with the goalkeeper before scuffing his shot.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes became increasingly frustrated with the match officials on the touchline and his remonstrating eventually landed him in hot water as he was sent to the stands.

It went downhill from there for the Potters as Son put Tottenham ahead five minutes before the half-time break after latching on to Christian Eriksen's pass in the box.

Ryan Shawcross would have rued missing an eight-yard volley as two minutes later, Son scored a wonder goal by curling the ball into the top corner from a tight angle.

Tottenham were not done as Alli extended the lead to three when he got on the end of Kyle Walker's low pass to drill the ball from 12 yards out.

Kane, who had not scored for club or country since May, joined the party as he was picked out by Son at the back post and smashed the ball into the net.

Shawcross had an opportunity to nab a consolation goal when he directed a header downward at the back post, but Walker knocked the ball clear off the line.

It was an afternoon to forget for Stoke as they continue to search for their first league win following three defeats and a draw.
