Report: Tottenham Hotspur enter Nathaniel Clyne race

Tottenham Hotspur join Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign Southampton and England full-back Nathaniel Clyne this summer, according to reports.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton this summer.

The right-back has enjoyed a successful season at St Mary's, helping the club to challenge for European football in addition to earning a call-up to the England side.

His form has alerted the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, and Tottenham are the latest club believed to be keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old, according to The Telegraph.

The Saints are currently trying to tie Clyne down to a new deal, with his existing contract due to expire at the end of next season.

The player himself has previously insisted that he is "happy to stay" at the club, but a switch to White Hart Lane would see him reunited with former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Clyne would be in direct competition with Kyle Walker for the right-back role at Spurs, but the former has already ousted Walker from the England side this season.

One sticking point may be the strained relationship between Spurs and Southampton, however, with Pochettino's move and attempted bids for Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez last summer understood to have upset the South Coast club.

Southampton remain hopeful that they will be able to keep Clyne, but reports have suggested that they have lined up Burnley's Kieran Trippier as a possible replacement.
