Andros Townsend wary of falling away for England

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend reveals that he is wary about falling away from the England squad if he doesn't maintain his form.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend has said that he is fully aware of the pitfalls of being an international footballer.

The Spurs youngster burst onto the England scene in their recent World Cup qualifying games against Montenegro and Poland.

He is now targeting a place in the squad for next summer's tournament in Brazil, although he admitted that it is difficult to maintain a place in the Three Lions side.

"It does sound good, being called an England international, but I have had two games and there have been a lot of players who have started their international careers well and have faded away," Townsend told FA TV.

"I can't let that happen to me, I have to keep playing well and try to force my way onto the plane next summer.

"We have a big, fantastic squad and every one of us is going to be trying to impress in training and the games to try and get to Brazil."

Townsend scored his first international goal in the 4-1 win against Montenegro on October 11.
