Charlie Adam reflects on 'bittersweet' wonder goal

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam says that his 60-yard lob against Chelsea was "something special", but would have preferred it to come in a win.

Charlie Adam has admitted that his wonder goal in Stoke City's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea was "something special", but hinted that he may have preferred a victory.

The Scottish midfielder stunned the Stamford Bridge crowd on 44 minutes when he lobbed Thibaut Courtois from roughly 60 yards to cancel out Eden Hazard's earlier penalty.

Loic Remy snatched victory for the Premier League leaders shortly after the hour mark and, despite grabbing the headlines, Adam admits that it is disappointing that his goal was ultimately in vein.

"I never knew I had that much power, to beat a quality goalkeeper like that is something special. One that I will always remember," he told BBC Sport.

"It was one of them that sat up nicely and I saw the goalie off his line. I was lucky enough that it went in.

"Once in a lifetime this can happen to you, it's great on an individual level - a great way to get my 50th goal in English football - but the team lost and that is the disappointing thing."

Defeat saw the Potters stay 10th in the Premier League table.
