Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has claimed that he is "proud" to have captain Ryan Shawcross representing England.
The 25-year-old was used in the Three Lions' 4-2 defeat to Sweden in an international friendly on Wednesday but Pulis believes that he should have been one of the first names on the team sheet.
"We are absolutely proud as punch that we have a player representing England," said Pulis. "I was disappointed he never started if I'm honest. I think he deserved to start."
Shawcross received his first call-up to the senior squad for England's 2014 World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland last month.
