Under-fire Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will reportedly meet club owner Ellis Short in the next 48 hours for crunch talks over his future at the club.

Bruce has come under pressure for Sunderland's slow start to the season and was booed by fans after their 2-1 loss to Wigan on Saturday.

"Steve is determined to fight on and maintains he has a squad which can satisfy the owner's demands," The Sun quotes a Sunderland source as saying.

"They will all collectively have a good, hard think before doing anything. Making rash decisions is not how the owner works.

"Winning the fans back will be very tough, but he's up for the challenge. It's up to Ellis Short to believe him and give him the chance to do it."

Sunderland are currently two places off the relegation zone with just two wins so far this season.
