Lee Cattermole: 'Sunderland can follow Newcastle United's example'

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole says that the club can take inspiration from local rivals Newcastle United as they look to turn their fortunes around.

Lee Cattermole has admitted that Sunderland must cut out the errors in order to turn their faltering season around.

The Black Cats are currently in the Premier League relegation zone having won just one of their first nine games.

Having scored three own goals in their recent 8-0 defeat at Southampton, more individual mistakes cost Sunderland against Arsenal in their last outing as they gifted the Gunners a 2-0 win.

However, Cattermole points to local rivals Newcastle United for inspiration, who have themselves bounced back following a disappointing start to the campaign.

"It can change so quickly - look at Newcastle up the road," he is quoted as saying by BT Sport. "That's football. We can't get too carried away with a couple of bad results.

"We've all been here that many times. We've got to cut the errors out. You cut them out and you suddenly make teams beat you. But it's a hard thing to do."

Sunderland travel to face Crystal Palace on Monday night.
