Paolo Di Canio sacking 'due to training ground bust-up'

Paolo Di Canio was reportedly involved in a training ground bust-up prior to his sacking as Sunderland manager.

Paolo Di Canio's recent sacking as Sunderland manager was the result of a training ground bust-up, according to a report.

Two "senior players" turned on the Italian during an inquest into the team's 3-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion, The Mirror claims.

The unnamed squad members are said to have lashed out at Di Canio over his methods, specifically his man-management and constant criticism of his players.

The heated exchanged coupled with Sunderland's poor start to the season is what forced club owner Ellis Short to swing the axe, according to the report.

Kevin Ball has been named as the 45-year-old's temporary successor and will take charge of Tuesday's Capital One Cup clash against Peterborough United.

Di Canio, who won just three of his 13 matches in charge, brought in 14 players during the summer transfer window.
