Former Scotland number one Craig Gordon admits that he may never play professionally again after struggling to overcome chronic knee problems.

Former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has admitted that his professional career may be over after failing to recover from a string of knee injuries.

Gordon, who has 40 Scotland caps to his name, was Britain's most expensive goalkeeper at £9m when he moved from Hearts to Sunderland in 2007.

The 30-year-old was blighted by injury, though, and despite taking a coaching role with Dumbarton following his release last summer, he admits that his career may be at an end.

"It's very unlikely that I will play again this season," Gordon told the club's official website.

"In fact, I'm not sure if I'll play again, so I'm looking to get into coaching as I want to remain in the game.

"I'm not ruling out playing again, but I need to get things in to place if the news isn't good in that respect."

Gordon also said that he was impressed by the way things were run by manager Ian Murray at Dumbarton, and enjoyed watching their game against Livingston from a coach's point of view.
