Sunderland's Lee Cattermole remains optimistic over survival

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is optimistic that his side can pick up the points in their bid to secure Premier League survival.

Sunderland midfielder has admitted that it is getting "harder" to secure Premier League survival, but is optimistic that the club can pick up points.

The Black Cats are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, seven points adrift of safety.

Gus Poyet's side will have to face Chelsea and Manchester United in their final six games, as well as Manchester City, who host the North-East outfit at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow evening.

"It's getting harder, but while there are points to play for, we can win," the Northern Echo quotes Cattermole as saying.

"You can't write off games like Manchester City and Chelsea - teams have been there in the past and won, but if we are to stay up we have to start picking points up. We'll keep going and that's the type of performance we'll demand from each other."

Cardiff City and Fulham make up the bottom three in the table.
