Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is warned that his new club are lacking a proficient goal scorer.

New Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has been warned that his club are lacking a proficient goal scorer.

The Northern Irishman was appointed coach of the Black Cats on Saturday and he was at the Molineux on Sunday to see Wolves take a 2-1 victory over his new club.

O'Neill will reportedly be given a £20m transfer budget for 2012, and he was given a stark warning after the defeat that Sunderland are in desperate need of a striker.

"Martin will have seen our strengths but he knows there are problems too," caretaker manager Eric Black said.

"We could do with someone to score a goal. We need someone to find the back of the net more regularly when we have possession of the ball."

Sunderland are currently 17th in the Premier League with 11 points from 14 games.
