New Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has reportedly held talks with Peter Reid over a coaching role at the Stadium of Light.
The 59-year-old is said to be tempted by the prospect of working under his former Bolton Wanderers teammate.
Reid is the most successful Black Cats boss of the modern era, having guided the North East outfit to successive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League.
According to the Daily Star, a return to his former hunting ground could now be on the cards after holding talks with Allardyce, who will officially take charge of the club later this week.
Sunderland are currently 19th in the league table, which led to Dick Advocaat leaving his role as head coach after just seven months in charge.
