Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has revealed that Steven Fletcher could return from injury on Saturday against Arsenal.
The 26-year-old striker has missed the Black Cats' last three matches because of an Achilles problem.
If Fletcher is unable to make the squad this weekend, then Poyet is hopeful that the Scot will be fit to play a part in the League Cup final against Manchester City on March 2.
"Perfection would be for him to play against Arsenal. I would like to have him for then, even if it's on the bench," the Uruguayan told the Sunderland Echo.
"That would be a great situation for him to feel part of the group again and playing. If not, I would like to think he will be alright for the final."
Fletcher has scored three goals in 22 appearances for Sunderland so far this season.
