Not only is Kieran Richardson currently nursing a leg injury on the sidelines, but yesterday he saw his Sunderland side spurn the opportunity to take on Liverpool in an FA Cup semi-final by losing 2-0 at home to Everton in the final eight of the competition.
However, the disappointment of both outcomes will have been cushioned by Natalie Suliman, a British glamour model who the former England international is currently dating.
Suliman rose to prominence in December 2009 when she modelled a Christmas underwear range from Marks and Spencer on London's Oxford Street.
Two years previously, she is believed to have begun dating Richardson, who had recently joined the Black Cats from Premier League champions Manchester United.
While the left winger went about making a name for himself on Wearside, Suliman embarked on a career that has seen her become one of the most recognisable models, and subsequently WAGs, in the United Kingdom.
The story goes that Suliman was handed her big break when she was spotted by a modelling agency after her breasts had popped out of her bikini! True or not, it certainly worked in her favour!
Now she can be seen on billboards across numerous cities, as well as magazines, newspapers and the internet modelling for the likes of M&S and Next.
While Richardson's proudest achievement might be his eight England caps, Suliman can boast that her appearance in a green silk bra and briefs in 2010 across all media platforms saw sales of the M&S product rise by 163%.
Richardson's boss Martin O'Neill will no doubt be hoping that his playing squad can bounce back from last night's disappointment to produce similar results on the pitch between now and the end of the season.
