Jermain Defoe appears to be closing in on a move to Sunderland by reportedly undergoing a medical with the Premier League outfit.
Ten clubs in the top flight are said to be interested in signing the former Tottenham Hotspur striker, but the Black Cats are believed to be in pole position having offered a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Defoe, who is currently training with Spurs to maintain his fitness levels, is said to be keen to return to England having spent less than a year in the MLS playing for Toronto.
According to Sky Sports News, the 32-year-old has gone to the North-East to undergo tests by Sunderland's medical staff ahead of a proposed move.
Defoe has 124 Premier League goals to his name.
