West Bromwich Albion are reportedly considering a bid for Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner before Friday's 11pm transfer deadline.
The 27-year-old started his career at Aston Villa and Sky Sports News claims that the Baggies may offer him a route back to the Midlands this January.
Sunderland signed Brighton & Hove Albion star Liam Bridcutt earlier today, which means that they could allow a midfielder to leave, but the Black Cats have so far resisted selling Lee Cattermole to Stoke City.
Gardner could be the man to depart, if Albion, who are also believed to be pursuing Norwich City playmaker Wes Hoolahan, make their interest concrete with an offer in the next few hours.
Gardner has made only seven Premier League starts for the Stadium of Light outfit this term.
