Half-Time Report: Andy Carroll gives West Ham United lead at Swansea City

West Ham United are beating Swansea City 1-0 in Saturday afternoon's Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

The hosts carved out the first opening of the game within the first five minutes as Bafetimbi Gomis charged into the box to meet Nathan Dyer's cross, but he couldn't quite connect.

Swansea imposed themselves on their opponents with a number of tough challenges, Ashley Williams clashing with Andy Carroll and Enner Valencia in the space of a few minutes.

Chances, however, remained at a premium, with Carl Jenkinson firing well over the crossbar midway through the first half and Kevin Nolan seeing his effort from the edge of the box land on the roof of the Swans' net moments later.

Towards the end of the first half, the hosts had a few threatening forays into the box, as Neil Taylor tried his luck from 20 yards but to no avail, before Adrian had to be called into action to twice thwart Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, the Hammers broke the deadlock just before half time when Carroll powered through a crowd of defenders before lashing a left-footed shot into the top corner.
