Swansea City caretaker Alan Curtis: 'We face test of character'

Swansea City's caretaker manager Alan Curtis backs his charges to respond to recent woes with a positive result against West Ham United.

Swansea City's caretaker manager Alan Curtis has backed his side to respond to a run of five defeats in six games with a positive result against West Ham United today.

The Welsh side dropped into the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday after Norwich City secured an unexpected victory at Old Trafford, but Curtis thinks that the Swans should take heart from their performance in last week's game with Manchester City, in which they had many chances and lost to a late winner.

"It's something we spoke about this morning. It's a test of character now," Curtis told Sky Sports News. "[Being in the relegation zone] is a different experience, something that's not happened to us for a number of years now. I expect the players to respond. Certainly with the performance that we showed last weekend, if we can reproduce that performance then we'll be okay."

Asked for an update on Swansea's ongoing search for a replacement for Garry Monk, Curtis admitted that there was "no news" but stressed that the decision should not be rushed.

"Obviously we just continue as long as the club and the chairman deems us to carry on," he said. "As I said last week, the important thing, however long it takes, is that we get the right person. If that takes a little bit longer then so be it."
