FC Groningen have completed the signing of former Sweden international midfielder Rasmus Lindgren on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old, who terminated his contract at Red Bull Salzburg earlier this year, has agreed a three-and-half-year deal with the Eredivisie outfit.

Groningen director of football Henk Veldmate said: "It's well known we have a young and talented squad, but this group also lack experience.

"Therefore we made contact with Rasmus Lindgren and asked him about his future plans.

"We talked about our future plans and we don't just see a role on the pitch but also on the training ground and in the dressing room. In all cases a player with added value."

Lindgren represented Groningen 82 times between 2005 and 2008 before leaving the club to join Ajax.
