Valencia's Jose Luis Gaya "excited" to play under Gary Neville

Valencia defender Jose Luis Gaya admits that he and his teammates are eagerly anticipating their first match under the tenure of Gary Neville.

Valencia defender Jose Luis Gaya has revealed that he and his teammates are full of excitement to play under new manager Gary Neville.

The 40-year-old was appointed as the club's new boss last week to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, and took his first training session on Monday ahead of his side's Champions League clash against Lyon.

Gaya has said that Neville has already outlined his philosophy to the players and is hopeful that they can succeed under the former Manchester United man.

He is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News: "We are full of excitement and desire to get things going with him. The past is past and a new era is beginning.

"He wants the team to be compact, hard-working and supportive of each other and Valencia to be a tough opponent.

"We have to be able to have a chance of keeping the ball as otherwise it would be impossible. Let's see what idea the boss has and we will follow it to the death."

Valencia can reach the knockout phase of the Champions League by beating Lyon, but also have to hope that Gent fail to defeat Zenit St Petersburg in their Group H match.
