Valencia easy victors over 10-man Malaga

Valencia move to the top of La Liga by comfortably beating 10-man Malaga 3-0 at the Mestalla, thanks to goals from Alcacer Paco, Daniel Parejo and Pablo Piatti.

Valencia won for the first time this season by easing past 10-man Malaga in La Liga on Friday.

Sergi Darder's first-half red card was the second handed to a Malaga player in as many games and allowed Nuno's side to cruise to a 3-0 victory at the Mestalla.

The visitors were building up a head of steam before Darder's 27th-minute dismissal, as Roque Santa Cruz twice shot wide from good positions and Juanmi forced Diego Alves into two decent saves.

The sending-off, for a reckless lunge on Daniel Parejo, gave Valencia respite and it only took six minutes for the hosts to capitalise on their man advantage as Jose Gaya crossed for Paco Alcacer to convert.

Valencia increased their lead in first-half injury time, when Weligton was adjudged to have blocked the ball with his arm inside the penalty area when sliding in to challenge Algerian winger Sofiane Feghouli.

Parejo, who spent half a season on loan at Queens Park Rangers in 2008, saw his spot kick saved by Carlos Kameni, but tucked in the rebound to give his side a comfortable half-time cushion.

Pablo Piatti made sure of the points for the hosts 10 minutes into the second period, running onto a pass from Paco to strike powerfully into the net and send Valencia to the top of the La Liga table.

The six-time Spanish champions have picked up four points from their first two games.
