Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 San Jose Earthquakes

Vancouver Whitecaps move up to third in the MLS Western Conference with a 2-1 win over leaders San Jose Earthquakes.

Vancouver Whitecaps have moved up to third in the MLS Western Conference thanks to a 2-1 win over leaders San Jose Earthquakes at BC Place.

The victory has put an end to a four-game winless streak for Martin Rennie's side.

The Whitecaps took the lead on 20 minutes as Dane Richards rifled the ball into the top corner past Jon Busch in the Earthquakes goal.

However, the visitors were level at the break when Alan Gordon headed in Marvin Chavez's cross on 38 minutes.

The winner came with just over half an hour to play courtesy of Barry Robson's penalty after Camilo Sanvezzo was brought down by Sam Cronin in the box.
