West Ham United and Everton have shared a point after playing out a 1-1 draw at Upton Park in the Premier League this morning.
Manuel Lanzini opened the scoring for the Hammers, but Romelu Lukaku responded 10 minutes later to snatch an equaliser for the visitors in what was an even game.

Hello all! It's the last round of Premier League fixtures before it disappears for another international break. Every team this weekend will be particularly eager for a decent result as there is nothing worse than entering an international break knowing that you have to wait a fortnight to put things right at club level. There are seven games in the schedule today, but here, we will be focusing on West Ham vs. Everton at Upton Park.
Both clubs have similar objectives this season as they hope to be challenging for European spots, and they are not far off at present. The Hammers are sixth in the Premier League table, just one point off a Champions League place, while Everton reside ninth in the standings, four points adrift of the top five.
Before we delve any further, let's bring you the confirmed starting lineups, which have just filtered through at Upton Park. We'll begin with the hosts...
No big surprises from Slaven Bilic's team. West Ham have been forced to make one change after James Collins was sent off against Watford last weekend. Winston Reid, who has missed the club's last three games, comes into the defence alongside James Tomkins. Bilic confirmed earlier this week that Diafra Sakho will not take part in today's game as he continues to struggle with a thigh injury.
As expected, Adrian starts in goal for the Hammers, while Carl Jenkinson and Aaron Cresswell form a back four with Reid and Tomkins. Captain Mark Noble lines the midfield with Cheikhou Kouyate, while loanee Victor Moses, Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini provide attacking threat behind striker Andy Carroll, who recently returned to fitness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injuries.
Everton have also made just the one change today as Bryan Oviedo, who misses out with a hamstring injury, has been replaced by young Brendan Galloway. As we know, the captain Phil Jagielka will be out of action for around two months with a knee injury, meaning that Ramiro Funes Mori continues to line the defence with John Stones. Earlier this week, Martinez revealed that Leighton Baines will play in a friendly during the international break in a bid to improve his fitness. The left-back is not available for selection just yet, but it seems as though he will return to the fold soon.
Tim Howard has not had the best of seasons so far, but he keeps his place in goal, while Seamus Coleman joins Stones, Funes Mori and Galloway in the back four. Gareth Barry, who captains the side this afternoon, sits in midfield alongside James McCarthy, while Ross Barkley, Gerard Deulofeu and last weekend's hat-trick hero Arouna Kone form an attacking three behind striker Romelu Lukaku.
So, let's begin with West Ham, shall we? While Slaven Bilic has decent credentials, I don't think many people thought that the Croatian would have guided the team to just one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United after 11 games. The 47-year-old replaced Sam Allardyce in the summer and so far, looks to be the perfect successor. However, the team's seven-match unbeaten run came crashing down last weekend as they lost 2-0 to Premier League new boys Watford.
West Ham's away form has been almost perfect this season. Before taking on Watford at Vicarage Road, Bilic's side had not lost any of their five games on the road having won four and drawn one. In three of those victories, they picked off Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. They seemed unstoppable on their travels until they come up against Quique Flores's Watford side.
Odion Ighalo was the man to put a damper on West Ham's season by scoring in the 39th and 48th minute. If that wasn't bad enough, the Hammers went down to 10 men six minutes from time when James Collins was sent off for a reckless tackle. Due to the momentum that West Ham had prior to that game, Bilic will be determined to bounce back and enter the international break with all three points in his pocket. Also, depending on how Manchester United and third-placed Leicester City get on today, the Hammers could move into the top four of the table.
The question is, how long can West Ham realistically sustain their assault on the European places? Last season under Sam Allardyce, the Hammers shocked us again with a bright start to the campaign, but they eventually fell away and finished 12th in the standings. The team have good attacking strength and decent shape, but if you asked the man on the street, most would probably not feel confident in saying that West Ham will be in the top four come May.
One man who does feel as though the Hammers have a slight chance of qualifying for the Champions League is the club's co-chairman David Sullivan, who told West Ham's official website last week: "We're very, very optimistic, I'm not talking it down. I want to talk it up. I believe it's achievable.
"In football, we're here to dream. At the start of the season we were in four competitions and the aim was to win those four. Now we're down to two, we've got the big double left, and it's very, very unlikely but not impossible."
As a chairman of the club, of course Sullivan is going to be aiming high, but that seems to be the feeling among the hierarchy at West Ham. The team move into the Olympic Stadium next season and a prestigious ground such as that in Stratford deserves to have a club that is challenging in the top echelons of English football. There will be huge pressure on Bilic and the team to consistently challenge for European spots, but it remains to be seen whether they can become one of the top six pillars in the Premier League.
This season, though, there is more chance of West Ham grabbing a European spot, what with the crisis that is going on down the road in West London at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho's team look a far cry from the unit that eased to the Premier League title last season. They are 15th in the table, a whopping 10 points adrift of fourth place after 11 games. Of course, there is always the possibility that Mourinho could turn things around and the team could go on a winning run, but at the moment, it does open it up for the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and maybe West Ham to fight for a European place.
Everton are another club hoping to push themselves into European contention following a decent start to the season. Roberto Martinez's side will definitely have their tails up this afternoon following their 6-2 drubbing of Sunderland last weekend. It was a highly entertaining fixture with Gerard Deulofeu and Arouna Kone putting Everton 2-0 ahead after half an hour at Goodison Park, but it got tense for the Toffees as Jermain Defoe and Steven Fletcher pulled the game back to 2-2.
Everton were able to bounce back from relinquishing a two-goal lead by scoring three in 20 minutes after Sebastian Coates scored an own goal. Kone managed to complete a hat-trick while Romelu Lukaku also found the back of the net to help Everton to a comprehensive victory. To come back after losing a 2-0 lead showed the determination and character from Martinez's side, who are beginning to show signs that they can realistically challenge for a European place.
The Toffees were handed a difficult fixture list at the start of the season as they had to face Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea back-to-back, and in October, they faced Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal one week after the other. They managed to come through 10 matches with three wins, four draws and three defeats. Now, the Merseyside outfit have a kinder run as they face Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Norwich City in their next four games after this afternoon's fixture.
One factor that has helped Everton be more threatening this season than the last, when they finished 11th, is that they have not had to deal with the demands of the Europa League. Martinez would probably be the first to admit that not having European football in this campaign has helped the team improve in domestic matters.
The team have been much better in defence this season having John Stones and Phil Jagielka marshalling the back line, but they will have to make do without Jagielka for a few weeks as he continues to nurse a knee injury. Goalkeeper Tim Howard has come under some criticism this season having kept just three clean sheets so far, but Martinez is determined to stand by the American.
In an attacking sense, Everton have scored 19 goals from 11 games, which is the fifth-highest total of goals in the Premier League so far, with Lukaku claiming six of them. The emergence of Kone is also a huge positive for the Toffees as the striker spent most of last season out of action with a knee injury. After scoring a hat-trick last weekend, though, the forward is beginning to look like a big threat for the Toffees.
One player who has been making the headlines recently is Kevin Mirallas, who starts on the bench this afternoon. There have been reports that the winger will consider leaving the club in the January transfer window as he fears that a lack of first-team action will hamper his chances of playing for Belgium in next summer's European Championships.
However, Martinez was quick this week to rubbish suggestions that the player is unhappy. In his press conference this week, the Spaniard told reporters: "Kevin being unhappy here couldn't be further from the truth. He is very important for us and he knows that."
Let's not forget that Mirallas only signed a new three-year deal with Everton in August, so if he were to leave, the Merseyside outfit will want a decent fee for him.
We can't discuss Everton without mentioning Arouna Kone's comeback. The striker was not particularly warmly welcomed by the fans when he joined from Wigan Athletic in 2013. It went from bad to worse as he suffered a potentially career-ending injury, but he has managed to fight back to force his way into the first team. Kone has scored four goals so far this season, and what's even more encouraging is that he has been linking up well with Lukaku when the pair have played together. Martinez will be hoping that the pair can thrive once again this afternoon.
HEAD TO HEAD: Right, we're not far from kickoff now, so let's have a look at some stats related to this fixture. Well, the Hammers have not been able to beat Everton in 17 meetings, which does not bode well today... The last time that West Ham secured a win was in the 2006-07 campaign when they snatched a 1-0 triumph. The two sides have met 115 times, but Everton dominate the results given that they have claimed 60 wins compared to West Ham's 31. The last time that these two sides met at Upton Park was last season when Leon Osman and Romelu Lukaku scored to claim a 2-1 win. Stewart Downing was the man to strike for the Hammers.
PREDICTION: It's a difficult game to call, but expect goals! The two teams are very attack-minded, and while West Ham will be desperate to recover from their recent defeat, their home form has not been great. Aside from an impressive win over Chelsea last month, West Ham have managed just one win at home this season. Other results at Upton Park have ended in two defeats and a draw. Everton will be buoyed from their thrashing of Sunderland, but they may not be able to claim all three points today. We're going for a 2-2 draw.
Before the game gets underway, everyone in the stadium will pay respects to the fallen soldiers for Remembrance Day. Poppy wreathes have been laid on the centre circle. Both teams also have poppies emblazoned on their shirts.
Fingers crossed for an exciting game! Both teams have set up in similar formations, so we should get some decent battles across the pitch. In these early stages, West Ham are comfortably moving the ball back and forth in their own half.
CHANCE! Some lovely movement from Payet as he dances past a few Everton players before passing to Moses, who goes for a low shot towards the near post, but he just misses the target. A bright start from the home side!
At the other end, Everton launch their first attack as Coleman plays the ball to Kone, who would have been one-on-one with the goalkeeper if Reid has not intercepted and cleared.
CHANCE! After an impressive start, West Ham suffer a scare as Kone finds space on the right before whipping a cross into the box looking for Lukaku. Adrian manages to punch it away, but it's a tentative clearance from the shot-stopper, who could have been left red faced had Lukaku got a head on the ball.
Everton are getting more time on the ball now as they find their rhythm in the first half, but aside from the Lukaku chance, they have not posed too much threat on West Ham's goal as yet.
Funes Mori finds himself in the box as he receives the ball from Barry. The defender takes too long to get his shot away and Reid comes in for the tackle. The Everton man goes down in the box, looking for a penalty but the referee correctly waves it away.
Noble shows some creativity by playing the ball forward into the path of Jenkinson, who charges down towards the byline, but the pass is slightly too heavy and goes out for a goal kick.
CHANCE! At the other end, Barkley takes a great touch on the corner of the box before cutting inside and launching a shot at goal, but he hammers it into the hands of Adrian, who collects comfortably.
Cresswell finds some space after receiving the ball from a short free kick. He sends the ball into the box, but rather than picking up Carroll, he finds Moses, who heads towards goal, but his effort goes over the crossbar.
WIDE! Barry takes a free kick in the middle of the park quickly towards Kone, who charges towards goal and rather than squaring to Lukaku, he goes for goal, but drills it wide.
It's a very open game at the moment! West Ham get a free kick in the final third. The ball is swung into the box and goes beyond goal, but it's headed back into danger. Carroll is unable to latch onto it and the chance goes missing. Everton then go on the counter, but Lukaku loses the ball.
There's been about three of four questionable fouls, but the referee is yet to brandish a card. In the latest incident, Kone brings down Moses, but manages to get away without a yellow card.
CHANCE! Some lovely play from Payet again as he feeds in Jenkinson, but his effort is punched clear by Howard. It's not out of danger though as Cresswell attempts to curl the ball round the keeper with the outside of his foot, but it just misses the target.
Everton get a free kick of their own just yards from the box following a hand ball from Moses. Barkley stands over the ball and goes for goal as he lifts it over the wall, but Adrian easily takes it in his hands.
Lanzini breaks free from midfield as he surges towards goal, but Stones puts in a well-timed tackle to stop the West Ham man in his tracks. It's been a lively first half so far, with chances at both ends. Who can find the breakthrough?
SAVE! Deulofeu shows his skill after receiving the ball from McCarthy. The Spaniard moves into the box and tries a low shot at the near post, but Adrian drops to the ground and saves with his feet.
What a goal from Lanzini! Moses first tried his hand at goal with a shot, but it deflected back into the box. Lanzini was able to get there first before any of his opponents and curled the ball round Howard and into the top corner. A wonderfully executed goal!
BOOKED! McCarthy is the first to get a yellow card, and in all honesty, he's lucky not to have been sent off! The Everton midfielder hacked down Payet with a scissor tackle. He's not best pleased to have been booked, but he can't have any complaints.
As expected, West Ham's tails are up as they put on more waves of attack. Noble gets some space down the right and charges to the byline before cutting back to Carroll, who is unable to reach it and Everton regain possession.
Everton get a chance to attack West Ham's goal as Barkley swings the corner into the box and manages to find Funes Mori, who rises above his marker before heading the ball down, but his attempt goes wide of the post.
Cresswell gets plenty of space as Deulofeu opts against closing him down. The Englishman manages to whip a cross in, but it's high and Howard is able to pick the ball out of the air.
Everton have looked relatively comfortable in the middle of the park, but their threat in the final third is lacking at the moment. The danger seems to be when West Ham get players wide. While Stones has looked solid at the back so far, the team do look vulnerable when on the backfoot.
What a perfect response from Everton just minutes before the stroke of half time! Lukaku nabs his ninth goal of the season after picking up a wonderful through ball from Deulofeu in the middle of the park. It's a tight call as to whether Lukaku is offside, but he manages to break away from the two defenders either side of him and get around Adrian, who comes off his line, before tucking the ball into the net. Game on!
The referee signals for half time, but Bilic is fuming at the fourth official as the whistle was blown just as Carroll looked through on goal. There's nothing that the West Ham boss can do though as the players walk back to the dressing room for the half-time break.
Well, what a lively first half! It was an open game from the start, with both sides knocking on the door. It was West Ham who found the breakthrough when Manuel Lanzini struck with a lovely curling effort. Everton eventually responded after Romelu Lukaku scored after picking up a perfect through ball from Deulofeu.
West Ham were on top after taking the lead, but they were rattled after suffering the equaliser. Overall, it's been relatively even as both teams have been threatening on the ball, but have struggled slightly off it. We suspected that there would be goals on this one, and there may be even more in the second half!
It's also been quite lively in terms of challenges on the pitch. James McCarthy can count himself lucky for staying on the pitch after a scissor tackle on Dimitri Payet. The Everton midfielder was issued with a yellow card for bringing down Payet, who seemed to be feeling the effects as he was spotted limping as the half came to a close.
Everton try to create an early opportunity as Coleman tries to feed in Lukaku on the edge of the box, but Adrian reads it well and comes off his line to snatch the ball before the Everton striker can get a touch.
Everton play some intricate passes around the box and they receive a free kick just outside after Moses is adjudged to have fouled Galloway. Barkley and Deulofeu stand over the ball..
Barkley takes it and tries to curl it around the wall and into the net. The midfielder manages to get past the wall, but the ball flies over the crossbar.
WEST HAM SUB: It's bad news for West Ham as Payet is forced off as he continues to feel the effects of that first-half tackle from McCarthy. Enner Valencia replaces him.
A lovely turn from Carroll in the middle of the park as he finds Cresswell, who whips the ball into the box searching for Valencia, but Everton are able to clear.
The start of this second half is not as fiery as the first as both teams have been sloppy in possession, needlessly giving the ball away. We are yet to have a serious sniff at goal.
The referee has a word with Lukaku after he chased down Reid before giving him a slight shove in the back. The West Ham fans are calling for a yellow card, but the Everton striker just gets a warning.
Valencia takes on Coleman on the left-hand side of the area. He manages to cut into the box before whipping the ball across into the box, but Carroll is unable to get on the end of it.
At the other end, Everton try to force their way into West Ham's box, but the home side are defending in numbers, making themselves difficult to break down.
Jenkinson comes inside and tries to lift the ball over the top of Everton's defence. The ball bounces slightly awkwardly, but it falls in favour of Howard, who latches onto the ball and the visitors regain possession.
Howard is all over the place as he punches the ball away from Lanzini's free kick, but it's a weak clearance and he's forced back on his line before gathering the ball yet again. He throws it out of the box but gives it straight to a West Ham shirt. Thankfully for the goalkeeper, Everton manage to nick the ball back.
It's end to end again! The tempo has ramped up and Valencia has played a big part in that. The attacker passes to Lanzini, who cuts inside before unleashing a shot, but his effort just misses the target.
Valencia is involved again as he chases a pass from Moses into the box. Coleman tracks his movement and puts in a well-timed challenge to halt the West Ham man's run. It seems as though Valencia hurt his ankle in the process and is currently seeking medical treatment.
It's a big blow to West Ham as Valencia is going to have to come off. The stretcher is on the pitch to bring off the Ecuadorian. It's very unfortunate for the player as he only recently recovered from a lengthy spell on the sidelines. That's two key players lost to injuries - Valencia and Payet.
The game is still nicely poised, with both sides launching attacks, but we're still looking for that killer touch. Two of West Ham's influential players are off the pitch, so they will hope that they can find some danger from elsewhere.
CHANCE! Reid, who has not scored in over a year, comes close to putting the Hammers ahead as he rise above everyone else to get a head on the ball from a corner. It's a free header, but Reid just nudges over the crossbar. Very close!
Deulofeu does well to get past three West Ham players and into the box. The Spaniard goes for a shot, but it's deflected out for a corner. The ball comes in, but it's comfortable for Adrian as he snatches the ball from the air.
At the moment, it's hard to see where the next goal is going to come from. West Ham have had the better chances of his half, but it is not quite happening for them in the final third. Carroll has had some good touches, but the striker has been relatively quiet.
Barkley goes for a marauding run from the middle of the park, but he runs into Tomkins, who puts in a decent tackle to halt the Everton midfielder's charge.
CHANCE! Jenkinson has a good opportunity to put West Ham in front as he cuts inside and drives towards the box. The on-loan Arsenal player goes for a shot on the outside of his foot, but he fails to trouble Howard.
MISS! Lukaku comes so close to scoring a second goal! A lovely ball from Galloway finds the striker about seven yards from goal as he's charging into the box. All Lukaku needs to do is tap it in on target, but the ball just trickles past the post.
There's a feeling that both sides are happy to settle for a draw now as the game has got a bit scrappy. It's hard to see there being a winner at this stage.
Barry sends a decent through ball for Mirallas, but it's slightly too long as the ball trickles to Adrian. It doesn't seem to be happening for either side at the moment.
So, there we have it! West Ham and Everton take a share of the spoils following first-half goals from Manuel Lanzini and Romelu Lukaku. You'd argue that the result is a fair reflection of the game as both teams had chances, but not quite enough to finish it off. This means that West Ham move up to fifth in the table, three points behind Manchester United, while Everton climb one place to eighth. That's all from us this afternoon, but stay with Sports Mole for all the reaction, match analysis and player ratings. Until next time, goodbye.
