George Moncur sets sights higher than West Ham United

West Ham United midfielder George Moncur suggests that he is looking to use his loan spell at Colchester United to catch the eye of the Premier League's elite clubs.

West Ham United midfielder George Moncur has suggested that he is looking to use his loan spell at Colchester United to impress the Premier League's elite.

The 21-year-old, the son of former Hammers midfielder John Moncur, has scored two goals in four appearances for the League One outfit so far this season.

He is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his father by making the grade at Upton Park, but has admitted that he may have to explore his options in January as he plots his path to the very highest level.

Moncur told the Daily Star: "It's hard going to a new team, especially when you do not know what is going to happen.

"I am a positive person, I look to the future and the next match in front of me and how I can affect it. Obviously I want to play for West Ham, but I also want to catch the eye of bigger teams, which is understandable.

"I really like playing here and enjoy it. But I am just going to play each game as it comes and see what happens when my loan is up in January."

Moncur, who made his one senior Hammers appearance in their 5-0 FA Cup third-round thrashing by Nottingham Forest last season, has also spent loan spells at Partick Thistle and AFC Wimbledon.
