West Ham United are one of three Premier League sides currently eyeing up a January move for Chicago Fire forward Nicolas Gaitan, according to a report.
The 31-year-old's contract with the MLS side expires at the end of next month, with Aston Villa and Sheffield United also thought to be interested in his services.
A long-time target of Manchester United, the former Benfica winger has scored four goals and recorded 11 assists in 27 games for Chicago.
The Guardian reports that Manuel Pellegrini's Hammers are currently leading the race for Gaitan and that initial talks have taken place between the club's sporting director Mario Husillos and the player's agent Matias Lipman.
An Argentine international, Gaitan's previous clubs also include Boca Juniors, Atletico Madrid and Dalian Yifang.
