Preview: Wigan Athletic vs. Bournemouth

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Wigan Athletic and Bournemouth at the DW Stadium.

Wigan Athletic could move level on points with sixth-placed Ipswich Town if they beat Bournemouth in their Championship match on Saturday.

The Latics are currently 11th in the table but are just three points off the playoff places as they look to build a promotion charge in the second half of the season.

The hosts have not lost in their last six games, experiencing a sharp upturn in form as soon as their Europa League campaign broke for the winter.

The Latics are still unbeaten under Uwe Rosler, while his side have drawn their last three games at home, most recently being held to an action-packed 3-3 draw against MK Dons in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Wigan will welcome Ben Watson back into the squad while Ivan Ramis is also expected to be fit enough to play. However, Shaun Maloney and Gary Caldwell remain sidelined with no date set for their returns.

Despite sitting down in 16th place in the Championship table, Bournemouth are closer to the playoff places than they are to the relegation zone in terms of points.

Eddie Howe's side are currently just six points behind sixth, while they are clear of the bottom three by nine points, so they will have their eyes looking firmly up the table rather than down it.

The visitors are unbeaten in their last four games, while they have only lost once on their travels in their last five away games, and that was to high-flying Queens Park Rangers.

They have no new injury concerns and could name an unchanged side to the one that drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion on New Year's Day.
