Wolverhampton Wanderers confirm that defender Hugo Bueno signs for Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have allowed Hugo Bueno to link up with Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal.

The West Midlands outfit have combined some seemingly shrewd additions with the big-money exits of two of their star players.

Max Kilman and Pedro Neto have joined West Ham United and Chelsea respectively for a combined total of £94m, providing Gary O'Neil with substantial funds to spend in the transfer market.

However, on Tuesday morning, Wolves revealed that there had been another notable outgoing with defender Bueno making the temporary switch to Feyenoord.

Bueno had been in line to compete with Rayan Ait-Nouri for the left-back or left wing-back spot, albeit starting the campaign as second choice.

Instead, Wolves have taken the decision to give the 21-year-old the opportunity to earn regular game time with the Eredivisie giants, who have qualified for the Champions League.

Why Wolves are loaning out Bueno

Bueno ticks a lot of boxes in terms of being a valuable squad member courtesy of being viewed as a homegrown talent having arrived at the academy in 2019.

A total of 25 starts and 24 substitute outings have been made in all competitions, yet it became clear over pre-season that he may struggle for minutes.

Although he completed the match in a 3-1 friendly defeat to Crystal Palace, he accumulated just 42 minutes during the other two matches on the tour of the United States.

What have Wolves had to say?

On the club's official website, sporting director Matt Hobbs has spoken openly on the situation, feeling that the transfer is something that suits all parties at this stage of Bueno's career.

He said: "It's a situation that works for all. Some people might think we're leaving ourselves short, but we've got a number of players who can cover in that area of the pitch and it's really important for us and Hugo that he goes and plays.

"Feyenoord are a club playing Champions League football, in a good league, are well known for developing players and have been great throughout. For us, it feels like the perfect club for him to go to develop and we're looking forward to seeing him develop over the next year.

"Rayan was unbelievable last year, and Hugo was really understanding – he's a great pro, trains hard every day, works hard, and when players are like that, and we feel it's the right deal and right club, you want to it make happen. He played a lot, then injuries took him out the team, then we had a change of manager and Rayan hit form, so it's an important season for him to get football."

Bueno will initially compete with Marcos Lopez for the left wing-back spot at Feyenoord, while Gijs Smal and the currently-injured Quilindschy Hartman are also options in Brian Priske's squad.
